Module 1: Introduction to Privacy

This module introduces some fundamental concepts related to privacy, explains why protecting personal information is important and introduces the legal framework for the protection of personal information.

Module 2: The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

This module briefly describes The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The statute has general application in local authorities and sets out the basic rules for protection of personal information and establishes a public right to access records in local authorities.

Module 3: The Health Information Protection Act - Overview

This module briefly describes The Health Information Protection Act. This statute provides the rules for protection of personal health information in regional health authorities in Saskatchewan.

Note: Only those working in regional health authorities need to complete this module.

Module 4: Privacy Safeguards

This module looks more closely at the second major component: the public's right to access local authorities.

Module 5: Reviewing the Right of Access to Public Records

Most of this course deals with privacy and the protection of personal information. However, as the title of The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act suggests, protection of privacy is only one of the main components of the Act.

This module looks more closely at the second major component: the public's right to access records of a local authority.

This module will try to make it all real for you through interactive case studies.
