Branches, Boards and Commissions Office of the Chief Coroner
The Office of the Chief Coroner of Saskatchewan is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected and unnatural deaths as described in Section 7 of The Coroners Act, 1999. We are an independent agency operating under the direction of the Chief Coroner and reporting administratively to the Ministry of Justice. There are approximately 150 lay coroners in Saskatchewan, plus the Chief Coroner. In Saskatchewan, coroners are not necessarily doctors. We are committed to conducting a thorough and independent examination of the circumstances surrounding sudden, unexpected and unnatural deaths in order to improve the health, safety and quality of life of the Province of Saskatchewan.
