This is a "how-to" course for processing access to information requests under both:

• The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act; and
• The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

It provides guidance on processing an access to information request from receiving the request In the Door to getting the finalized response Out the Door - and everything in between.

The course reviews what is required by law and provides best practice advice.

The course is divided into the following modules: 

• Module 1: Introduction to Access
• Module 2: In the Door - First Steps and Processing the Request
• Module 3: Records Review and Exemptions
• Module 4: Out the Door - Finalizing the Request
• Module 5: Review, Resources and Tools

Throughout the course, there are links to additional tools and resources to help process access to information requests.

The course does not need to be completed all at once. It can be stopped and started as often as necessary to fit busy work schedules.

Once completed, the course can also serve as a reference guide for processing access to information requests.
