The Religious Societies Land Act enables religious organizations to obtain title to land by designating trustees to hold title on behalf of the organization.

The land may be used for the site of a church, chapel, meeting house, burial ground, residence for the minister or similar religious purposes. Subject to the requirements of the Act (e.g., approval of a majority of the religious society, registration in the Land Titles Registry office), the land may be mortgaged, leased, transferred or sold.
