Welcome to the Access and Privacy Course for Saskatchewan Local Authorities

This course provides an overview of access and privacy laws that apply to local authorities in Saskatchewan. Upon completion of the course you will have a better understanding of:

how privacy is an issue of importance to us all;
the laws that apply to local authorities including:
- The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act; and
- The Health Information Protection Act;
the obligations of employees within local authorities, along with simple steps we can all take to protect the records we handle; and
the rights of individuals to access records in the local authorities of Saskatchewan.

Exercises containing scenarios are included, to stimulate thinking and increase awareness about access and privacy concepts and the roles and responsibilities of public sector organizations and their employees in protecting personal information.

Time Required: This course should take between 1 to 2 hours to complete. It can be completed in stages or all in one sitting.
