Proposed new legislation will make it easier for police to protect someone who has a protection order against a person who has intimidated, threatened, coerced or harassed them, by amending The Enforcement of Canadian Judgments Act.

The Public Guardian and Trustee has authority to investigate allegations of financial abuse and to freeze bank accounts under certain circumstances.

When financial abuse of a vulnerable person occurs or you suspect that it might be occurring, the question always arises as to what can be done about it. The Public Guardian and Trustee have the power to freeze funds in certain circumstances and to do investigations in some circumstances. Family and friends also have some options that they can consider. These options are outlined here.
