Saskatchewan Justice
Throne Speech 2008
Did You Know

2008-09 will see planning for a new court facility in La Ronge, an addition to the Saskatoon Court of Queen's Bench, and improvements to court circuit points.

The Dependants' Relief Act, 1996 provides maintenance obligations for dependants following the death of a person. Dependants include spouses, common-law spouses, same sex spouses and children.

The Act applies whether the person died with or without a will.

A dependant, or a person acting on behalf of a dependant, can apply to the Court of Queen's Bench, Family Law Division, for an order making reasonable provision for the dependant's maintenance from the deceased person's estate. The Court has broad discretionary powers that take into consideration all circumstances of the estate and the relationship of the parties.
