For a good number of individuals in Saskatchewan, the cost of bringing a family law matter to court with the help of a private lawyer may be beyond their means, or they don’t qualify for Legal Aid.
The Ministry of Justice operates the Family Law Information Centre and Support Variation Project to help these individuals obtain assistance in dealing with their family law matters.
What we do:
- Provide legal information to anyone who contacts us, regardless of income or whether they have private counsel
- We do not provide legal advice, but we can give a large volume of legal information which will ensure that people have a basic knowledge of the legal system
- We have self-help kits for people who wish to represent themselves in court. We will also provide limited assistance in completion of court documents. Parties using a self-help kit may also find Standard family law clauses to be useful. For more information about the clauses, or how to use them, contact the Family Law Information Centre.
- We administer the Support Variation Project which facilitates variation of child support for parties who agree to use this service.
