The Access and Privacy Branch helps government institutions and local authorities in Saskatchewan comply with The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP).

Government institutions include all ministries, Crown corporations, prescribed boards, commissions and other agencies identified in the legislation.  For a complete list please refer to section 2 of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act  and Part I of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Regulations.

Local authorities include all municipalities, school boards, regional health authorities, post-secondary institutions, library boards and other public bodies listed in The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and in Parts I and II of The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Regulations

Information about education and training for employees of government and local authorities including access to on-line training.

The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General provides guidelines, checklists and variety of other resources and tools to help access and privacy officers/ coordinators and other employees understand and comply with the FOIP Act and LAFOIP Act.

The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General collects statistical reports from all government institutions subject to The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  The statistics are used to create Annual Reports on the administration of the FOIP Act in government.  An on-line Freedom of Information Statistical Tracking System for the collection of statistics is available at this site. 

The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General also organizes and supports an Access & Privacy Forum of Government of Saskatchewan access and privacy officers and coordinators.  The Forum website is available at this link.
